Town Of Livonia Hearing Affecting Conesus Lake Residents

This Important Hearing Affects All Who Own or Rent Properties on Conesus Lake

This Thursday Night, June 6th, 2019, at 7:00 PM, there will be an important hearing at the Livonia Town Hall.  The topic of the hearing is regarding properties on Conesus Lake that cater to short term rentals primarily.  That being said, the impact of the hearing could affect all lake owners within the town of Livonia, as well those who rent weekly vacation properties.

The nature of the hearing is regarding the potential restrictions or perhaps even the elimination of short term vacation rentals.  The hearing will allow some residents to voice their concerns regarding the negative impacts of short term rentals and their desire to restrict or eliminate them.  For some full-time or mostly fulltime lake property owners, dealing with weekly renters is likely undesireable.  Tonight's meeting will likely certainly allow these residents to voice their concerns.

As Realtor and homeowner at Conesus Lake, there are many other concerns to consider should this hearing ultimately result in restricting owners ability to rent their properties.  Conesus Lake, like most seasonal waterfront communities, sees an influx of visitors and vacationers every summer.  Many local businesses also rely heavily on this seasonal migration to our area.  Such restrictions could affect all of us who live locally

Many homeowners might not otherwise be able to afford their property without this seasonal rental income.

Those homeowners might be forced to sell these properties if they can't afford them.

These properties on the market will have less potential buyers, since the properties can't be used as rentals, which in-turn decreases their value.

Decreased home property values, generally tend to decrease all the properties around them, impacting the value of all similar properties.

Fewer summer visitors will equate to fewer visitors to our area businesses.

This impacts of these restrictions impacts all of us who live here, as well those from out of the area who have invested in our community and to our tax base.  There is no doubt, concerns about weekly renters is a legitimate one.  We all desire a summer time of relaxation and harmony amongst neighbors.  There will always be disrupters to this lifestyle. Hopefully a fair resolution can be attained.

Town Supervisor, Eric Gott is encouraging all concerned residents to come and participate in tonight's Town Hall hearing.
