Let the Spring Fishing Begin on Conesus Lake!

Now that the ice is gone on Conesus Lake, we can let the Spring fishing begin! From Small Mouth Bass to Walleye and Pike, every angler hopes the fish will be biting as they drop their lines into the waters of the lake.

Although the Conesus Lake inlet is closed to fishing until the 1st Saturday in May, many fish can be seen in the waters there.  Many have enjoyed watching the Walleye and some Pike swim upstream to begin their spawning. According to a post in the Conesus Lake Fish Forum, the Walleye were very active on April 9th at the inlet but may now be winding down.

Small Mouth Bass seem to be very aggressive in the Spring before their spawn and are therefore pretty easily caught according to one long time fisherman.  They can be found in the 5-10' waters near the shore, since Conesus Lake has no structures for the fish to hide in. They can be fished by catch and release with artificial lures until June 15th, with the season opening on June 16th. The season is the same for Large Mouth Bass.  They are best caught when the waters warm up and you can fish near the Docks.

The season for Walleye, Tigers and Pike opens on the 1st Saturday in May and runs until March 15th the following year.

There is a Conesus Lake Fishing Tournament scheduled for May 12th, 2018 for Pike and Tiger from 6am to 2:30pm.  Catch and release only. There will be a cookout to follow at Vital Park. Registration will be at the Conesus Lake Boat Launch from 5-6AM.

Whether you fish for fun or profession, are just starting out or are a seasoned angler, whether you are young or old, man or woman, fishing can be a favorite pastime for so many.  It removes us from the day to day grind, allows us to spend time with those we love, helps us to connect with nature and teaches us one very important lesson... PATIENCE!

Best of luck to all those who brave the waters this 2018 fishing season.  May your lines be taught and your buckets be full!
